John grew up and worked on the family dairy farm in North Cumbria, where he developed his interest in farm animal health. In 1992 he completed a degree in Agriculture and Farm Animal Production at Newcastle University before going on to study Veterinary Medicine at Edinburgh University.
After graduating in 1997 John initially worked in mixed practice including some time spent in New Zealand before turning his attention exclusively to large animal work.
John has a wealth of experience across many different dairy, beef and sheep units. He has a particular interest in preventative herd health and infectious disease control and investigation, but enjoys all aspects of veterinary work.
John lives in North Shropshire and is married to Nicky, an equine vet. They have two teenage boys who he spends most of his spare time taxiing around. When he gets time he enjoys walking in the hills with his family and their two Border Terriers, and he also plays the odd round of golf too whenever he is allowed.
